China News Net January 14th,2013 (reporter: Zhou Yin)— In order to accelerate the wide-range application of BeiDou satellite navigation system in the transportation industry and improve the ability and level to use satellite navigation technology in road transportation, China Transportation Department says on January 14th that they plans to spend 2 years constructing 7 application systems and a set of support platform and installing 80,000 BeiDou terminations in 9 provinces-- Jiangsu, Anhui, Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Hunan, Ningxia, Guizhou and Tianjin.
In 1985, Chinese scientists began to study our own satellite navigation system and name it as BeiDou—a name of a constellation on behalf of brightness and direction in Chinese traditional culture. On December 28th,2012, BeiDou system officially began to work and offer service to all the Asian-Pacific region.
In order to ensure to finish the installation task, the Transportation department issued NOTICE：from January 1st, 2013, all of the long-distance passenger trains, sightseeing buses and dangerous goods transportation vehicles in the 9 provinces above should install BeiDou compatible car terminals if they need to renew their car teminals; all the heavy-duty trucks and semi-trailor towing vehicles should intall BeiDou compatible car terminals and connect into road freight vehicles public monitoring and service platform; it encourages country passenger vehicles to install BeiDou compatible car terminals. From June 1st, 2013, all the new long-distance passenger trains, sightseeing buses and dangerous goods transportation vehicles in the 9 provinces should be installed with the BeiDou compatible car terminals before they are going into the market. The vehicles which go against the NOTICE will not be checked or given the Road Transport Permits.
For the time that BeiDou satellite navigation system officially begin to offer service, Transportation Department helds the picturephone meeting and deploys work to accelerate the implementation of Key Transportation Monitoring and Management Service Demonstration System. This project is the first demonstration project providing service to the civil which is initiated by BeiDou satellite navigation system, and this project is implemented by both Transportation Department and GAD.
Feng Zhenglin, the deputy minister of Transportation Department, requests that the 9 provinces should pay attention to the installation of BeiDou Car Terminal and take effective action to ensure to finish over 80% tasks before the end of Mar,2013. He also encourages those provinces to outperform in this task.
